WAKEFIELD ARTS FESTIVAL BRIMMING WITH RIVERFIRE, THEATER, COMEDY
(July 12, 2011)

WAKEFIELD – The Contemporary Theater Company brings theater, music and comedy to the second annual Wakefield Arts and Entertainment Festival this August.

Cold War farce “Red Herring” headlines the event, which also includes RiverFire, a salsa concert by Santa Mamba and a “Peter Pan” children’s show. The fun arrives Aug. 11 to Aug. 14 at Saugatucket Park on High Street.

“This year’s festival promises something for everyone,” said Honorary Festival Chairwoman Sen. V. Susan Sosnowski (D-Dist. 37, South Kingstown). “Enjoy these fantastic local artists as they build a more vibrant Wakefield community.”

“Red Herring” features South Kingstown favorites Ryan Hartigan, Laura Kennedy, Max Mathews and Terry Simpson and North Kingstown resident Calvin Campany, among others. They face murder, mayhem and mistaken identity as three couples journey to the altar in this McCarthy-era comedy.

Opening night Aug. 11 includes free treats courtesy of Brickley’s Ice Cream. The night caps off with comedy by the Contemporary Theater Company’s Thank You Improv and Newport’s award-winning Bit Players.

The younger members of the community will believe in fairies, fight swashbuckling pirates and never grow up during an original Contemporary Theater Company adaptation of “Peter Pan” on Aug. 14.

For the festival’s complete schedule visit www.wakefieldfestival.com. Most events are free with a suggested donation. Saugatucket Park is located at 99 High St., Wakefield, RI. The festival is sponsored by NewportFed, Liberty Rentals, Brickley’s Ice Cream, Paul Masse Chevrolet, Ichiban Karate, Damon’s Hardware, Folk Art Quilts, the South County Independent and Ichiban Karate.
